Holland and Indonesia share a long history together. Since the 17th century the Dutch had trade connections and Indonesia became more and more a colony. After WWII Indonesia declared itself independent, a decision the Dutch government couldn't easily accept. As a result a lot of Dutch boys were sent to Indonesia to fight for control over the country. Finally in December 1949 the Republic of Indonesia became a fact. One of the boys sent to Java was Mirjams father. He had worked as an engineer, building bridges and so, and not seeing much 'action'. As he kept telling he would like to see Java again, Mirjam and two of her sisters, Martha and Wil, went with him in search of memories. We found some places from the past, and also got acquainted to a very friendly people and a beautiful country.
