Hagia Sofia

The Hagia Sofia (or Aya Sofia) used to be a Byzantine church before it was transformed into a mosque. Now it is a museum.

Those medallions are enormous

A very big building

We did not really expect frescos and mosaics, but they are here. There are strange pictures for an Islamic praying place, Mary and Jesus with a king and queen. You don't see many pictures of people, least of all women (the family tree of the sultans only has men). The mosaics are very beautiful, made from tiny stones. It must have taken years to make them.

Is that a duck he's holding ????
