Night train to Sapa

By nighttrain we went to Lào Cai, and that was not bad at all. The only problem was that we arrived at 5:30 in the morning. Even after our transfer to Sapa, it was still very early. Fortunately, we could already check in, sleep a bit more and have breakfast before we went to the market.

Sapa street market

The main reason to visit Sapa are the minorities that come here to sell their products at the market. Every tribe has a different way to dress, so you soon recognize the Hmong, Dao and Thai women and children. The men go to Lào Cai to work.

View of Sapa Valley (without mist)
Sapa is foggy most part of the year, we heard, so we weren't surprised it was so when we were there. But on our second day, we made a trip in the surroundings, and the fog sometimes lifted a bit. Apart from nature and agriculture, you can visit some villages of the minorities. Really amazing is how short these people are. Although the Vietnamese aren't very tall, these people are still a lot smaller. A good place for Mirjam's sister: here she can feel tall herself for once.

A dog admiring the landscape

When walking around, you see lots of things. Like a woman making incense. And little piglets that almost fit on your hand. You would bring one home, if you hadn't seen the mother, who doesn't fit in an average-sized car. Our guide told us the type of dog on the picture on the right is very tasty: in the North of Vietnam they are eaten.
